The Mae Dress

For this project, I wanted to to create a simple, modest dress that aligned with the trend of being “soft and feminine.” I wanted this piece to feel timeless and elegant, so I focused on clean lines and a balanced silhouette. I also kept in mind the need to remain flexible with the final fabric choice.

100% cotton dress created from manipulation of the size 6 bodice and skirt seen on this slide, focusing on adjusting its pattern. The bodice of the dress features three darts: one center front dart and two mid-neck darts. The darts shape the garment for a tailored fit. By altering the pattern, I explored new shapes, proportions, and design details. This project gave me a much deeper understanding of what it takes to manipulate a pattern and bring a design from flat sketches to a finished garment.
